How to put Month Calendar Widget on your Home screen

Many Month Calendar Widget users download the app from Google Play and once it gets installed they get lost, because the app doesn't run immediately as a normal Android app does. Month Calendar Widget is a Home screen widget and doesn't run as normal Android apps do¹. You have to put it on your Home screen to make it work.

Here are instructions to put the widget to use (you must know your device's Android version because there are some differences in the steps depending on it):

Versions up to Gingerbread (2.3.x)
1. Open the Home screen where you want to place the widget
2. Press Menu and touch Add, or just touch and hold and empty location on the Home screen
3. Choose Widgets in the menu
4. Find one of the two available sizes (3x2 or 4x3) in the widgets list
5. Adjust settings if you wish (press Back to exit)

Honeycomb versions (3.x)
1. Open the Home screen where you want to place the widget
2. Touch the + button at the top-right of the screen, or just touch and hold and empty location on the Home screen
3. Choose the Widgets tab
4. Find one of the two available sizes (3x2 or 4x3) in the widgets category
5. Drag the widget onto the Home screen where you want to add it
6. Adjust settings if you wish (press Back to exit)

Ice Cream Sandwich and later versions (4.x)
1. Open the Home screen where you want to place the widget
2. Touch the All apps icon
3. Choose the Widgets tab and swipe to the right to find one of the two available sizes (3x2 or 4x3)
4. Touch and hold the widget until the Home screen appears, slide it into place and lift your finger
5. Adjust settings if you wish (press Back to exit)

NOTE: If you use a Home screen replacement app such as Go Launcher or ADW Launcher, these steps may differ slightly.

Presentación en las JUTI 2012

El jueves 23 de agosto fui invitado a contar mi experiencia en el mercado de aplicaciones Android en la 13º edición de las JUTI, las Jornadas Universitarias sobre Tecnología de la información. Estas jornadas vienen desarrollándose desde el año 2000 en la Facultad Regional Resistencia de la Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, que es mi "alma máter", el lugar donde me recibí de Ingeniero en Sistemas de Información hace ya unos cuantos años.

La presentación fue similar a la que di en el meetup del NEAValley en mayo pasado, pero esta vez disponía de más tiempo así que pude ahondar en más detalles sobre la experiencia vivida con Month Calendar Widget.

El viernes 11 de mayo fui invitado a contar mi experiencia en el mercado de aplicaciones Android, en el marco del 1er. Encuentro 2012 de NEAValley. Fue una experiencia muy positiva: compartir lo que uno aprende en un emprendimiento siempre es enriquecedor. También fue una excelente oportunidad de networking con los colegas del medio.

First post

I had to fight bravely to overcome my laziness and start writing this blog. The time has come finally :)

About one year ago, I realized my career as a software professional was getting more and more boring. The opportunities to be creative with what I was doing at that time were minimal. Then I asked myself: why not explore a new field, one where I can pursue what I love most, creating useful software applications? With the technology world going increasingly mobile, it was clear that in mobile I had a fantastic opportunity to relaunch my programming career.

The purpose of this blog is to share my experience since taking that decision. I plan to post here regularly about the things I learn while creating mobile applications: what worked, what didn't, the joys, the pains, the "a-ha" moments, the roadblocks, everything around my mobile developer journey. And of course, I will write about the (hopefully great) apps created in the process. I expect this blog will also be a means to communicate with the apps' users.

By the way, my first steps in the mobile world were with Android. Specifically, I started with a humble app, published in the Android Market in May 2011, that surprisingly had a good reception: over 55,000 downloads to date, and growing. I hope it's only the beginning, as I plan to continue making progress in Android and try other platforms too.
